Katherine M. Smith, MD

Dr. Katherine Smith is a board-certified physician with a focus on pediatric medicine. She is a physician in private practice at Sunrise Pediatric Associates in Raleigh, and previously worked at Carolina Permanente Medical Group, Kaiser Health Plan in Raleigh, NC, and at Ong, Stroud, Pillsbury, Shanahan, Palumbo and Smith in Washington, DC. A few years after finishing medical school, Dr. Smith established the Washington Free Clinic in Washington, DC, an inner city well-child clinic that served an indigent (primarily Hispanic) population.

She earned her medical degree at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, with academic honors in pediatric acting internship, pediatric hematology/oncology, pediatric radiology, emergency medicine, psychiatry, nephrology and neurosurgery. She completed her pediatric residency at Children's Hospital National Medical Center in Washington, DC. She also holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from William Smith College in Geneva, NY.

She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
