Where Can I Find a Primary Care Doctor in Raleigh?

The Wake Specialty Physicians practice includes a diverse group of primary care physicians, with specialists in both internal medicine and family medicine right here in Raleigh.  All of our providers are board-certified, and they are supported by a comprehensive group of specialists within the WakeMed Physicians network who can provide a wide variety of specialty health care services.

Our primary care practices - Apex Medical Group, Brier Creek Medical Group, City Center Medical Group, Falls Pointe Medical Group, and Holly Springs Medical Center, Knightdale Family Practice, and North Wake Internal Medicine - are each conveniently located in Raleigh and are accepting new patients. What Is Primary Care? 
The primary care physician is usually the first doctor patients turn to for care and is generally knowledgeable in all areas of medicine.  Primary care doctors will help you identify a medical concern, and help you determine when a specialist is needed.  Many patients develop a long-term relationship with their primary care physician.  Physicians most often referred to as primary care doctors include family medicine doctors and internal medicine physicians.

What Is Internal Medicine?
Internal medicine is a medical specialty focused on adult medicine, provided by caregivers with specific training focusing on prevention and treatment of adult diseases. Internal medicine doctors, otherwise known as internists, are often called on to treat chronic illnesses. They also focus on disease prevention and wellness. Doctors of internal medicine often collaborate with other specialists such as surgeons or cardiologists to coordinate a patient's care and manage medical problems associated with that care.

What Is Family Medicine?
Family medicine is the medical specialty concerned with the total healthcare of the individual and the family. Family medicine doctors are known for creating caring relationships with patients and their families by taking care of physical, mental and emotional health. As necessary, family medicine doctors will refer patients to specialists or subspecialists and will help coordinate care for their patients.

What Services Does a Primary Care Doctor Provide?
Common services offered by primary care physicians include: adult health care, adolescent medicine, chronic disease management, women's health care, gynecology, sports medicine, dermatology, preventive medicine, urgent care, physical exams, minor procedures and vaccinations. Some offices feature additional diagnostic services such as on-site laboratory and/or x-ray services for the convenience of their patients.
